Description: Theodore Katchel acquaints us with the historical origin of Chautauqua in New York in 1874. In 1979-1995 it was expanded by the University of North Dakota to have small college professors perform and inform at its presentations. Originally the actors were the characters themselves. Tulsa's programs began i 1991 by the Great Plains Chautauqua at Veterans Park. Then it moved to OSU Tulsa. Today the event is held at the Tulsa Historical Society and Museum. Funding, Character selections, themes, bookings, and funding are discussed. Ted would like to see the program expand to different cultural and community groups to further represent our history.
