Description: Charles J E Bertalot attended John Burroughs Elementary, Roosevelt Jr. High and Central High School between 1937 and 1951. He tells about the games and antics of growing up. At Christmas time in 1950 all 18 year old boys in the United States received a letter to report to the draft board. He shared memories of joining the U S Navy, traveling by train to San Diego, and camp training. The Korean Conflict was happening, but Charles couldn't accept a war assignment because he was an only son.
