Park
The new home of the Tulsa Historical Society completes one of Tulsa's
premier public places, the Woodward Park complex. The Society grounds
also provide a link to Tulsa's Cultural Corridor running
from the 34-acre Woodward Park to the Philbrook Museum of Art a
few blocks to the south through one of Tulsa's historic residential
neighborhoods.
Woodward Park is on the southeast corner of 21st Street and Peoria
Avenue. In addition to the Tulsa Historical Society and Vintage
Garden, the park's primary elements are the park itself, the Tulsa Rose
Garden, the Tulsa Garden Center, the Tulsa Arboretum, and the
Linnaeus Teaching Gardens. The Garden
Center building and the Society's Travis Mansion were built by David
and Samuel Travis in 1920. The City of Tulsa acquired the property
developed by David Travis in 1960, adding it to Woodward Park. The
Society acquired the Samuel Travis Mansion and grounds in 1997.
The 3.2-acre property is on the northeast corner of 25th Street
and Peoria Avenue.
