In the Creek Indian Language, the name Hyechka (Hi-each-ka) is synonymous with music, music lover or music maker. In October 1904, Tulsa’s Hyechka Club was organized to advance the interest in, to promote the culture of musical art in Tulsa and to promote the mutual improvement of its members. Hyechka has enriched Tulsa by bringing many great artists, orchestras, and opera companies to Tulsa.  Club members vigorously, passionately and successfully lobbied to make music a regular part of the Tulsa Public School’s curriculum, provided programs and assistance to a variety of deserving charities and have awarded thousands of scholarship dollars to promising young musicians.
