With the Tulsa Historical Society's purchase of the Travis Mansion in 1997, Tulsa was promised a premier facility in which to collect, preserve and present Tulsa's history. In 2007, the promise was fulfilled. Look at these 2007 highlights:

  • The Vintage Garden was installed and opened.
  • The Five Moons were installed and unveiled on the west lawn.
  • Renovations on the Samuel Travis Mansion were completed.
  • The Travis Mansion grand opening event, The Magical History Tour, had more than 400 attendees.
  • THS collaborated with Tulsa Transit, The Philbrook Museum of Art and Gilcrease Museum to offer "Second Saturday at the Museums," a monthly bus route directly to and between the three museums. Collaborations with the Tulsa Air and Space Museum and the Oklahoma History Center are also being explored.
  • Several new outreach presentations were introduced, including Tulsa Theaters of Yesteryear, Culture Comes to Tulsa and a readers theater for fourth graders, Statehood Day at Hall's General Store. Outreach presentations on Life of the Cowboy, Early Tulsa, and Art Deco 101 continue.
  • Downtown walking tours were expanded.
  • THS hosted bus trips to Oklahoma's oil patch and the Oklahoma History Center.
  • THS welcomed several speakers, including Guy Logsdon, who discussed early Oklahoma labor, Eugene Atkinson, author of Bloodmoon at Cabin Creek, and Laurence Yadon, co-author of 100 Oklahoma Outlaws, Gangsters, and Lawmen, 1839-1939.
  • Sixteen exhibits opened, including Flashback '57: Tulsarama and the Buried Belvedere, Facing a Century: Oklahoma Centenarians, and Roaring 20s: Prosperity and Peril in the Oil Capital of the World.

As a member of THS, you'll support an important local institution that protects and preserves Tulsa's history. Membership also offers these benefits:
